CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSE APPROVAL

The NYSCPG is authorized by New York State Education Department as an approved sponsor of continuing education courses and activities for geology and other Design Professions.  This page details the process for NYSCPG  to review and grant "geology" PDHs for continuing education courses and activities.Please review the steps required and follow the link at the bottom to submit materials for review for your proposed course or event.

Courses accredited by the NYSCPG for PDHs can be taken by Professional Engineers with a NYS license for continuing education. Courses accredited by other authorized entities for "engineering" PDHs can be taken by Professional Geologists with a NYS license for continuing education.


PROCESS TO APPLY


  • Click the link to the right to order a review of a continuing education course or activity. You will be sent the Application to Provide Continuing Education Services to complete.  For non-expedited reviews, the application should be submitted at least 4 weeks before the date of the course/activity. 
  • Submit the completed application to the NYSCPG Executive Director, John Nadeau for review at jnadeau@nyscpg.com.  Along with the application, the following supporting documents are required: 
    1. Outline of course in sufficient detail to demonstrate the technical content of the material;
    2. Learner objectives;
    3. A timed agenda displaying the estimated time of presentation for each segment of the course;
    4. All presentation materials (Power Point, handouts, etc.);
    5. Professional biography and/or resume for each instructor; and
    6. An assessment of learning in the form of at least three questions that will be presented either during or at the end of the course. 
    • A fee for the review, in accordance with the published fee schedule (below), will be invoiced to the applicant upon completion of the review. 
    • The NYSCPG will issue documentation approving the course or activity to the applicant after payment is received by the NYSCPG Treasury.

    Review fee schedule. One PDH is defined as one hour (50 minutes minimum) of relevant instructional time. Fees are for up to two (2) PDHs, except where otherwise specified, and are as follows:

    There will be a 50%  surcharge fee for expedited course reviews. 

    The review fee for courses proposed for more than two PDHs will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, but shall not exceed the base rate specified above multiplied by the number of PDHs requested and divided by two (e.g., for an eight-hour course sponsored by a for-profit organization, the review fee shall not exceed $600).

    The review fee covers each application.  The applicant may present the course/activity more than once per approval period (one calendar year after date of approval); see the PDH Course Expiration and Renewal Process below.

    Payment by credit card via NYSCPG website is preferred. If required, checks may be made payable to “NYSCPG” and mailed to 679 Plank Road, Clifton Park, NY 12065. Please notify us by emailing Executive Director John Nadeau at jnadeau@nyscpg.com prior to mailing payment. 

    Once payment is confirmed, applicant will receive a copy of the completed Continuing Education Instructor/Course Evaluation Form.


      PDH Course Expiration and Renewal Process


      • All courses expire one calendar year after the date of approval.
      • Expired PDH courses may be renewed provided course content has not substantially changed and the instructor(s) has/have not changed. If a course has substantially changed or the instructor(s) change, a full review and evaluation applies and will be subject to the fee schedule.  
      • The review fee for expired PDH courses or those pending expiration before the next proposed course date will be $25 for up to two PDHs. The review fee for expired courses proposed for more than two PDHs will be evaluated on an individual basis. 

        Continuing Education Course Implementation and Final Recordkeeping Process

        Applicant or Course Sponsor will return a signed copy of the Continuing Education Provider Agreement to the NYSCPG Executive Director and/or NYSCPG Continuing Education Subcommittee (to be emailed to Executive Director John Nadeau at jnadeau@nyscpg.com)

        Once the course has been completed, the Course Sponsor will issue signed PDH certificates to attendees. 

        Applicant or Course Sponsor will submit a final attendance list and copies of all signed PDH certificates to the NYSCPG Executive Director and NYSCPG Continuing Education Subcommittee (to be emailed to Executive Director John Nadeau at jnadeau@nyscpg.com). The final attendance list should be provided in excel form and contain the following information:

        • Attendee first and last name;
        • Email address;
        • Phone number; and
        • License information (if available), both state and number.
