NJ LSRPA’s NJSRC is returning to the Hyatt Regency in New Brunswick on April 3rd and 4th, 2024.

The NJSRC is the only Conference dedicated to site remediation in New Jersey. Just like past years, the 2024 Conference promises to deliver relevant courses for continuing education credits along with opportunities to network with peers and other industry professionals.

Professional education at the conference isn't just for LSRPs. They also offer CLEs, CPCs and PDHs (including NY) for license renewals.

The New York State Council of Professional Geologists (NYSCPG) has joined in an Industry Partnership with the New Jersey Licensed Site Remediation Professionals Association (LSRPA) for their annual New Jersey Site Remediation Conference (NJSRC).

NYSCPG Membership can receive a discounted Member rate of $200 through April 1st and $250 on April 2nd and 3rd. This is a savings of $125 or more from the non-member rate. NYSCPG members can use the code "NYSCPG-2024NJSRC" to receive the discounted member rate for the conference. You will need to enter the code at the top of the summary page to receive the discounted rates. Visit the LSRPA NJSRC website (https://www.lsrpa.org) for registration and additional details.

HMPGA, in collaboration with NEAIPG, is hosting the

6th Annual Student Poster Exposition and

    Professional/Career Networking Event!

This is an opportunity for undergraduate, graduate, and post-doc students in
geoscience or related fields to present their research to their peers and
professionals at an open poster session during HMPGA’s monthly meeting, in
conjunction with NE-AIPG’s Spring Meeting. Topics of research presented
should relate to geophysics, hydrogeology, geochemistry, or other geology or
earth & environmental science related sub-fields. Posters from previous

presentations with GSA, AGU, etc. are welcome and encouraged!

This meeting is intended to bring together professional geologists and students
in the geosciences, and has historically been well-attended by geologists,

engineers, and scientists from academic, government, and consulting sectors. Students should make sure a bring copy of their résumés!

Following the dinner, an evening talk will be presented on a topic of professional geology or related subject matter. There will be an afternoon field trip to the Holcim Ravena Cement Plant, stay tuned for details, visit

    https://hmpga.wildapricot.org/

    Poster Session Registration:

Current students and recent graduates of winter 2023/2024 are encouraged to

present at this open poster session, but all students are welcome!

Contact Kelly Weyer (NEAIPG) at kweyer@cg-env.net or Jonathan Dippert (HMPGA) at J.Dippert@ctmale.com if you are interested in presenting a poster.

Geosciences faculty members are encouraged to attend this event.

    NYS Licensure Application Preparation

    William Kelly, PG

    Eric Greppo, PE

This virtual course is intended for prospective professional geologist applicants and geologist professionals interested in best nurturing future licensees on their team.  It is critical that applicants clearly and thoroughly understand the criteria and processes associated with the NYS Professional Geology licensure application.

This course discusses, in an informal and participatory format, the communication, organization, and expression of experience on the licensure application.  The course reviews the current regulatory requirements, forms, and submission processes necessary for successful application. Attendees of this session will garner a better sense of what is required when applying for licensure, the importance of clear and concise writing skills, and an understanding of why comprehending instructions, seeking help, and networking are all critical success factors.

This course provides resources for licensure, but does not provide PDH credit. Access to the course will be sent out to those who register approximately one week prior to the event.

The NYSCPG and Midwest Geosciences Group are happy to offer:

The hydrogeologic complexity of fractured rock aquifers has often led to frustration and significant expenditure of resources in characterizing groundwater and predicting contamination. It is not uncommon to experience persistent contamination at fractured rock sites subjected to long-term pump and treat remedial technologies.

Fluid flow and contaminant transport in fractured rock fundamentally differs from granular porous media as fractures serve as interconnected and spatially discontinuous preferential pathways. Given the high degree of heterogeneity, fractured rock hydrogeology is very challenging but not impossible if site-specific data on physical and hydraulic fracture properties are used to properly develop conceptual models of fluid flow and contaminant transport.

In this course, participants will learn step-wise procedures to develop professional level conceptualizations of fracture networks for a variety of rock types, fracture patterns, and tectonic settings for application to field-scale transport problems and the assessment and design of remedial strategies.

    Course Elements

    • Understand how fluid flow and contaminant transport in fractured rock fundamentally differs from granular porous media.
    • Conceptualize fracture flow and contaminant transport at the field-scale for a variety of rock types, fracture patterns, and tectonic settings.
    • Distinguish between discrete fracture network and equivalent continuum representations, including simplifying assumptions and suitable applications.
    • Link fracture attributes such as orientation, density, length, spacing and clustering to fluid flow and contaminant transport behavior.
    • Apply site-specific fracture information to develop transport predictions and remedial strategies.
    • Plus the New PFAS Workshop added this year.

This is the fourth continuing education collaboration between Midwest GeoSciences Group and the NYSCPG, and members of the NYSCPG can save $150  when registering with this coupon code: NYSCPG-SAV150.
Consider Becoming a member to qualify!
